Two Guardians

This poem originally published for the Poetry Foundation’s PoetryNow podcast follows the apprehension of a protagonist taken into an underworld apart from society. Looking beyond the guardians motivated to maintain an ominous “body count” somewhere at their periphery, our speaker is ushered away from the scene. And yet upon recognizing a strange “footprint perspective” a conspiracy is revealed. Rallying towards a kind of uprising, the quick glimmers that are witnessed within ignite meaning into this poem’s ushering towards a form of resistance.
